Eight firefighters lost their homes, and many more suffered damages to their properties due to one of the worst wildfires in Colorado’s history. This fire raged through Northern Colorado, and burned over 100,000 acres and claimed roughly 259 homes. The folks from this area will NEVER FORGET the sacrifices made by these brave men and women who fought to save the lives of our loved ones and properties. Then, while attempting to recover from this tragic, natural disaster, Colorado was hit with severe floods in 2013.
The Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department is not a fire protection district or some other form of tax-funded department. Instead, it is completely donation-funded. That’s why the yearly Mountain Festival is so important: without it, the RCVFD could not exist.
